"Sono noto per scattare foto molto ravvicinate", afferma Gilden del suo studio. “E più invecchio, più mi avvicino.”

Gilden è nato a Brooklyn, New York nel 1946. Ha studiato sociologia alla Penn State University ma non ha completato il corso, decise di diventare fotografo nel 1967, quando comprò la sua prima macchina fotografica. Ha frequentato i corsi serali alla School of Visual Arts di New York, ma si considera in gran parte un autodidatta.

Dagli anni settanta il suo lavoro è stato esposto in musei e gallerie di tutto il mondo.

Gilden vive a Beacon, New York. È entrato in Magnum Photos nel 1998

Bruce Gilden è uno dei fotografi di strada più iconici dei nostri tempi. Fin dall’infanzia, è sempre stato affascinato dalla vita per strada e dal movimento complicato e affascinante che essa comporta, e questa è stata la scintilla che ha ispirato i suoi primi progetti personali a lungo termine, fotografando Coney Island e il Mardi Gras di New Orleans.

Da allora, Bruce Gilden ha continuato a concentrarsi scattando ritratti di personaggi inusuali, umani e donne di strada e della (Malavita).

Gilden was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1946. He studied sociology at Penn State University but did not complete the course, deciding to become a photographer in 1967, when he bought his first camera. He attended evening classes at the School of Visual Arts in New York, but considers himself largely self-taught.
Since the 1970s his work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world.
Gilden lives in Beacon, New York. He joined Magnum Photos in 1998
Bruce Gilden is one of the most iconic street photographers of our time. Known for his graphic and often confrontational close-ups made using flash, his images have a degree of intimacy and immediacy that have become a signature in his work. "I'm known for taking very close-up photos," says Gilden of his studio. “And the older I get, the closer I get.”
Since childhood, he has always been fascinated by life on the streets and the complicated and fascinating movement it entails, and this was the spark that inspired his first long-term personal projects, photographing Coney Island and New York's Mardi Gras. Orleans.
